It all began with Pink Floyd
Night, a special occasional
event celebrating the music of Pink Floyd, performed by
singer/guitarist James Hollingsworth, also
featuring some of his own songs, which has been
wowing audiences throughout the UK since 2009.
James has also performed one-off Tim Buckley
and Blue Night events.
And then came Psych-Rock
Night! - It's Live but it's
Loops, but it's Prog but it's Psych-Folk - but
it's Rock!! It's classics and originals
from singer/guitarist James Hollingsworth,
including the music of, quite possibly: Jimi
Hendrix, Yes, Genesis, Tori Amos, Jeff Buckley,
Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Hawkwind,
Gong, Marillion, Steve Hillage, David Bowie; The
Doors; Jethro Tull, even Roy Harper.
Nights uniquely show James combining modern
Looping technology with real instruments -
percussion, voice, harmonica and guitar effects
- to build complex arrangements in real time. No
pre-recorded backing tracks are used - at least
not so far ;-)
James' Pink Floyd Night returned in March 2023,
celebrating the 50th anniversary of the release
of Dark Side of the Moon (1st March 1973). The

Pink Floyd
Night History
James has been playing Wish You Were
Here and Fearless (from Pink
Floyd's Meddle album) for donkeys'
years, in fact they were among the very
few covers that he had in his early 90's
repertoire. As years went by James began
to focus on learning more covers to help
engage his new audiences, and turned to
classics like Breathe, from Dark
Side of the Moon, often segueing
this with Nothing Else Matters
(Metallica), and then after gradually
adding Time and Great Gig in
the Sky, he found himself halfway
through the whole album.
A slew of gigs at The Prince of Wales,
Shrivenham led to hosts Mike and Jane
urging James to learn the remaining songs
of Dark Side of the Moon for what
was intended to be a one-off event at
their pub on 15 May 2009, which, in
addition to all of "Dark Side...",
this first 'Floyd Night' also included Wish
You Were Here (of course), Fearless,
A Pillow of Winds, One of these
Days as well as some of James' own
songs. It was a well-attended and superbly
Rocking night when many beers sunk
progressively into the past tense.
So, mightily encouraged by the great
success of this event, James gradually
expanded his repertoire of Pink Floyd
songs, played a bunch more 'Floyd Nights',
until with his investment into Live
Looping with a Boomerang III
Phrase Sampler in 2011 he was able to make
full use of his trusty Korg
multi-effects pedals to augment his
interpretation of Dark Side...,
and even attempt the epic Echoes,
which has remained a staple of James' Pink
Floyd Night show.
In 2017 James added more songs, upgraded
his Korg
multi-effects, added the Boomerang
Side-Car to make full use of his
Looper, and expanded his live sound canvas
to include stick and mallet struck
percussion.
